With five seasons of impressive storytelling under batman’s utility belt, Gotham wrapped up with an impressive finale, as Bruce Wayne returned to the eponymous city after a ten-year absence. Gotham is an American crime drama television series developed by Bruno Heller, produced by Warner Bros. Television and based on characters published by DC Comics and appearing in the Batman franchise, primarily those of James Gordon and Bruce Wayne. The series mainly focuses on Ben McKenzie as Jim Gordon while David Mazouz as Bruce Wayne deals with batman kinds of stuff. The series premiered on Fox on September 22, 2014, and concluded on April 25, 2019. Filming primarily took place across New York City.
A city of crime gave birth to one of the greatest detectives of all time.
Storyline: Gotham follows one cop’s rise through a dangerously corrupt city teetering on the edge of evil and chronicles the birth of one of the most popular superheroes of our time. The rise of Detective James Gordon before he’s to become commissioner of a pre-Batman Gotham City. He is partnered with the brash, but shrewd police legend Harvey Bullock to solve crimes in Gotham. This story gives some hints about the previous crime lords in the franchise. Solving the murder of the Waynes, the past story of the Wayne family, the way situations turn some intelligent beings into crime lords, and how Ra’s al Ghul plots everything to turn Bruce Wayne into the Dark Knight with the help of Jerome Valeska. We used to know a lot about Batman but this series tells us more about Gotham city, Arkaham asylum, Indian hills, and Wayne foundation. This story doesn’t give birth to a new batman but it reveals some mysteries of the past. Gotham is very colorful and nicely represented. It is done mostly by the book except for the story of joker and Barbra keen and has covered all the characters related to the Batman franchise.
Gotham starts with Camren Bicondova as Selina “Cat” Kyle stealing a bottle of milk. She has played the best cat women role of all batman series. Her acting felt like a real cat has turned into a human. Oswald Cobblepot (Robin Lord Taylor) entered the criminal underworld through Fish Mooney and her gang. He received the nickname Penguin. His role-playing was better than all other casts. Throughout the whole series, his impressions can’t be compared to anyone else. He is the true penguin. But Cameron Monaghan didn’t fit in the place of Clown Prince of Crime. His smile was not insane and his seriousness was doubtful. And their biggest mistake was puddin-tastic Ecco in the place of Harley queen, worst acting in the series. David Mazouz was not Batman, he was Bruce Wayne. So he was in the shadows.
Cinematography: Notarile is nominated for an Emmy in Outstanding Cinematography for transforming New York into a pre-Batman Gotham. Fox has received critical acclaim for the high-quality drama of comic fans’ favorite corrupt city. Notarile’s work on the series is gritty, imaginative, and visually stunning. In an interview he said, “Being a cinematographer, if it visually attracts me, that’s the first thing that entices me. In the television genre, the most important thing is the story, the content, or the premise of what the show is about. Obviously, with a show like Gotham for a cinematographer, it’s very juicy. It’s very appetizing because it’s a world unto itself. It’s not a real world. I’m not lighting things that are very literal or natural. We’re creating our world. As a result of that, we have an opportunity to think outside of the box and to bring things to the table that we would not normally have the opportunity to do.” Everything is as great as possible except the few seconds CGI of Gotham city projected from a distant angle.
Scripts & Dialogues: Harvey Bullock –“Cop partnerships are like marriages. You know each other better than your wives.” Fantastic lines from James Gordon, Harvey Bullock, and, of course, Bruce Wayne, play into Gotham becoming a breakout hit that ran for five seasons. Harvey bullock gave the best punchlines. The whole series is scripted nicely.
Music: Graeme Revell is composing film scores since the 1990s. He is an eight-time recipient of the BMI Film Music Award, including the Richard Kirk Career Achievement Award, and an AACTA Award winner. What more can we say about him, this person has also worked on the call of duty 2. The whole music composition of Gotham is both Bright and Bold. It puts a person’s consciousness into the situation that’s represented in the show.
Conclusion: The show has tackled characters that have never been seen in live-action Batman shows or movies and goes all out with them. It does some campy shit. It’s cheesy and ridiculous but in an irredeemable way. Crazy and over the top. Harvey Bullock’s punchlines, Penguin’s reactions, and James Gordon’s responsibilities kept it moving on. This TV Show is very violent! The violence is too bloody for a 15/TV-14 rating.
No nudity, brief sexuality, and some sexual dialogue. If you want a serious show, this isn’t it. If you want some crazy escapist fun, this show is great. It’s a comic soap opera, it has nice action, character drama, and theme arcs.
